Z3 3.0 engine compartment under tray

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but here I go.

I have noticed that my Z3 3.0 and all the 3.0 engined Z3s that I have seen so far don't have an engine under tray like for example the 2.2 meaning that all the dirt form the road goes inside the engine bay and my one is really filthy surely shortening the life of components etc and also accelerating rust ..

The question is - since the 2.2 and the 3.0 are have basically the same M54 underpinnings does somebody know if you would be able to retro-fit the 2.2 under tray/gearbox cover to the 3.0?

And one trivia question - if none of the 3.0s have an undertray, why would that be? heat dissipation greater on 3.0 than 2.2? surely in the UK with this climate it would be alright to have the undertray in the 3.0 maybe not in Spain at 40C

Hi

All non M Z3's have a under tray that end just past the radiator. Its purpose is to direct cold air through the radiator. There's one on my 3.0 L Z3.

I think the M Z3's have a slightly longer under tray.

I don't know of any under trays that go all the way back to the transmission.

The 2.2 definitely has one that goes all the way back to the gearbox, at least the two of them I have checked, my z3 3.0 has the one you mention on the front in front of the radiator but after the radiator all the way back to the firewall there's nothing you can see the floor.

This made me think to, my fist M44 Zed had an undertray that went some way back, my 2.0Ltr six just has the one in front of the radiator. has anyone got any pictures of the with & without?

Interesting doing some research on the under tray. It does seem that the 2.2 has a bigger undertray. So I would say that it might fit a 3.0. Would be interested to try that myself. Item 1 and item 2 for comparison.

Looking at real OEM it seems that part 51718397910 is only for the 1.9 facelift and the 2.2 whereas for the 3.0 and pretty much every other engine is the sorter kind of tray 51718397359 . I'd be great to see if we can attempt to fit the longer tray, i think it will make a lot of difference to the amount of debris coming into the engine bay.
