Another gone to scrap yard

Not your problem. But I suspect one way or another that's not a legal way to transport a car!

It's strapped on a spec lift AA and Rac still use them so personally I don't see anything wrong with it
It's sad when they go off to the junk yard, sorry recycle yard.
It makes me think of when they were leaving the showroom as a new car.
What was really sad was when we had the last scrappage scheme, I happened to be up at Thurleigh airfield where all the so called scrappers were parked up.
There was some really lovely cars there, I remember one in particular, a Peugeot 106, it looked a near perfect car.
I don't know if they all really got scrapped, someone there said they would be.
It seemed such a waste of cars that still had plenty of life left in them.

At the risk of sounding like Miss Goody Two shoes (I'm not) I made the comment because:It's strapped on a spec lift AA and Rac still use them so personally I don't see anything wrong with it
- It can be a nightmare getting shot of scrap cars and I sympathise. You're just glad to see the back of it. But it can sometimes mean working your way down the list of scrap dealers to the more questionable ones. So some care required in case something comes back on you
- Others on the forum may be mislead into thinking this is a legal way to tow a car. My understanding is that it isn't. And that may be relevant as non-running cars do get moved around by members on here. My understanding is if any of the wheels are in contact with the surface of the road it needs to be insured, MOT'd and taxed. And therefore legal/fit to drive on the road. Whether that's mitigated with the use of trade plates and light boards I don't know. But I don't see either here. Although in fairness the van is carrying a light board. And perhaps these were put on after the photo was taken. But I'm not convinced they would mitigate things and the point remains I'm just trying to help anyone on here avoid copying it and getting into problems.
If I'm wrong I'd be happy to know as I'll probably start moving cars around like this myself.
So just to be clear. I don't give a hoot and I'm certainly not having a pop at the OP

I haven't read that one. But I was reading today some of the cars from the original scheme (10 years ago) were still in storage, supposedly destined only for destruction under the scheme. And someone has been selling parts off them!

I totally agree with the OP. The car owner's business is to sell it to a person who knows how to dispose of it. A good company that provides such services should organize the entire process of moving the car itself so that the owner doesn't even think about it. It's a small pleasure to follow the movement of the car that you once loved and scrapped. I contacted nationalcarparts.co.nz and after receiving the money I really didn't hear any details about the future of the car. I think the amount of money received is the only information I need to know.

Car on a spec lift is ok if its a broken down vehicle its exempt from the weight rules, it becomes an unbraked trailer according to this

It can be recovered like that, but not transported, assuming that it is inside the weight limits. It sounds like the same thing, but a recovery is from a place of danger to a place of safety. You are recovered from the motorway to a storage yard, but from then on, it's transported.
It's an area that plod could clamp down on. Lots of transportation companies class themselves as recovery, but it makes no difference. Each journey is taken on its own merits.
I know someone who used their Range Rover to tow their son's car to the scrappy on a recovery frame
. I also know someone who towed their unbuilt kit car behind their Escort van. That must have been interesting to watch.

That was a nice looking car, I suppose there was a good reason for scrapping it.

Sorry about that, it looked like a nice car on the outside and I would of stripped all the nice bits before sending it out to pasture.
