In my situation the problem with the ECU was a chip that had gone faulty and a replacement new one needed to be ordered from Germany and replaced. Because of this, there were no fault codes on my ECU as the ECU obviously didn't know that it itself had gone faulty. What fault codes are stored in the ECU?
@Chamber66 - I should have also mentioned that if you did get a replacement ECU module from a breaker then it might have to be coded to your carIf the coils work when switched then I would definitely think ECU issue - I had it on my M where a full bank was down - theres very few places got the kit or knowledge to fix them these days.
On the plus side - there should be plenty of Breakers for 2.8 ECUs, not something you have the luxury of with the UK M.
However, try giving these guys a ring https://www.avilec.co.uk/ There is an old boy there who was able to fix - I actually sent it to a guy in Yokshire first of all who has connections with these guys at Avilec - seems like everyone uses them for this type of thing.
If the OP has the same symptoms then repairing the ECU is the correct course of action. I'm not seeing that other diagnoses have been ruled out currently. In my situation the problem with the ECU was a chip that had gone faulty and a replacement new one needed to be ordered from Germany and replaced. I am going to do another diagnostic on it this evening. I had a guy come in last week and it wasn't showing any codes? If the OP has the same symptoms then repairing the ECU is the correct course of action. I'm not seeing that other diagnoses have been ruled out currently.
Thorough check of wiring/connections back to ECU would be prudent.I am going to do another diagnostic on it this evening. I had a guy come in last week and it wasn't showing any codes?
My thoughts are it can only really be a ECU issue or crankshaft, cam sensor??
