Exhaust

Ok i have a hole in the exhaust, was not going to get MOT with that !

1. I could get my man to put a weld on it, but looking at it the price of that and the condition of it, might not be worth it.

2. So replace the exhaust, I do not want big bore, stainless etc . Just a replacement.

Is this all i would need ??

the hole on my exhaust is suppose to be the middle section

For that price it looks like it will do the job to get an MOT if you get 2 or 3 years out of it cheap enough.
Nearly 2 years ago mine blew it's Cat breaking blocking the whole system I could only afford an aftermarket Cat and exhaust with fitting kit and fitting was still expensive at the time.
It's still on doing the job.

Last year the car did all of 2000 miles not even that, so don't want to spend big money just now.
(Not after just coming back from holiday)

It looks to me that it is the front section with the cat built in then this piece, am I correct ?
Only two parts ?

Cat & Exhaust are separate on mine sorry can't be more specific BMW indy garage fitted it.
A genuine Cat was an arm and a leg so opted for aftermarket.
If it was a 20 k + car I might have put a top quality Cat & Exhaust on or if it was my only car doing thousands of miles a year.

Looking at this it seams to be a two part system, i do not have the car just now to check .

Why not get a repair done, at least for the test @stevie_a ive seen a quality repair last for years. Much less the a new system mate.

Been told most of the system is on its last legs, the car only did less than 2000 miles last year
so it stands on the drive,not good for any car

I put one of these on about a month ago, totally did the trick , came with mounting kit and bolts, highly adequate exhaust , less loud than the twin sport pipe I had but still packs a growl

NEED YOUR HELP

I have just been down to the garage where the car is, to talk to my mate, he said " come and look at this".

After we had been discussing me just going to buy a cheap exhaust section for the car, and as discussed on above thread, getting a rear section.

Turns out the car has a one piece exhaust system, which is stainless steel.

Has anybody know anything about this ??

Zed 3's were fitted with stainless exhausts as standard, that's why you will struggle to find mild steel aftermarket ones at your local exhaust centre.

My M52 2.0 is still on the original and is one piece from the cat back.

It also has a hole in it where it exits the centre box that has been an advisory for the last 4 or 5 MOT's (minor leak of exhaust gases).

This is an aftermarket from e bay, as you say system is two sections



with a flange to attach to the cat section from engine

BUT when i looked under the car there is no join, no flange just one section from engine to tail pipe

You need to get a flange to fit this then get the old system cut and the new flange welded onto the front section so you can then bolt the two bits together Stevie. OR you can buy joining sleeves which join two pieces of straight pipe. German Swedish sell good quality sleeves.(you would need to cut the flange off the new exhaust, then cut the old exhaust in the appropriate place according to the length of the joining sleeve)

The latter stats BMW Z3 1.9 (01/97-07/99) my car is a 2000,is there any difference

Honestly I'm not sure mate if it would be the same. This is the problem with "distance" buying. Did you put your car details into the parts finder on the pages?

yeah came up with two section

The problem i have is it is a German right hand drive car, bought in Germany by a squaddie and brought back and registered in the uk

It sounds like that the flange has already been chopped out on yours then. Even though the exhaust is stainless, BMW made the flanges and bolts from mild steel.
