Looks like it stops you using the back of that chair, does a good job..... you should have got one for the seat base too!

to push/pull the arms on the other side of the ramp, so you can just set and operate it from one side

Close enough mate. When you shove the arms right in it's not easy to reach them and pull them to the outside. It is using that. The arms have Allen screws in each side at the ends to stop the pads sliding off, so I left the cross piece just loose enough to rotate as the angle changes and it slides up to the Allen screw.
